YEAH I KNOW IT SUCKS:
The experimental label Attenuation Circuit has just released its 20th volume of an unstoppable compilation series. To be a bit different than normal and to approach this compilation in an equally experimental way I thought to ‘review’ it together with my hamster Spicki Lee Jones.

Hello Spicki, thanks for doing this one with me, don’t be afraid to let your thoughts about the music that you are hearing flow. Every opinion counts!

Spicki> eep eep eep

Haha, yes Spicki. So what did you think of the work delivered on here created by Their Teeth To Points?

Spicki> eep eep eep eep

Yes, totally! I agree, this is indeed sounding like something that is pretty alienating. The strange mysterious furbling sounds that blend so nice together with the ghostly falling ambient voices.

Spicki> eep eep

Yes, I wanted to tell that I was going to draw each track in 30 seconds and that this one became very visual with spirit like figures tumbling down a spiral staircase. But as my drawing skills didn’t match the visuals in mind, I just thought to review this experimental compilation with my favorite hamster instead.

Spicki> eep eep

Oh? Really? You like to do this with me on the one condition that I”ll draw the tracks in 30 seconds anyway? Okay if that makes you happy, Spicki.. I’ll draw each track as illustration, after all the 20th compilation should be a bit of a celebration right? Anyway.. Here is my drawing for the first track:

Spicki> eep

Thanks!

Spicki> eep eep eep

Yes, I agree that it’s time to say something about the other track that you especially seemed to enjoy, Spicki. What was it called?

Spicki> eep eep

Oh yes, Time by Prophecy Sun! So nice! For people that are in dying need for more details, think of a mix between angelic witches humming non words like a strange comforting opera that comes close to the sounds of a singing saw and whaling seagulls that fly low.

Spicki> eep eep eep eep

Agreed.. It’s strange because it might be quite dark, it also sounds very muttering. As if it is orchestrated to calm down a new born.. Or indeed even a hamster.

Spicki> …

Sorry Spicki, I had no intentions to offend you by comparing you to a human baby. Please accept my appologies..

Spicki> eep eep

Oh, yes.. I almost forgot, the 30 second drawing impression:

Spicki> eep

Okay, thanks Spicki! It won’t happen again.. Would you be so kind to tell your opinion about the next track on this compilation?

Spicki> eep eep

Ah that’s alright mate, don’t worry I’ll start if that makes you more comfortable…

Spicki> eep eep

Elektrojudas really made something wonderful over here. The track created by this artist gives to me the feeling of a time when ice is melting. There is a strong sun but it’s still cold as some ice cone seems to drop small water drops. It’s a backdrop for a very nice minimal piece that goes around a very minimal beat and carefully placed synth tones with ambient atmospheres.

Spicki> eep eep eep eep

Yes, it has indeed a bit of a psychedelic flavor to it, probably created by the lucid interaction of the melting ice drops, the beats and all the other sounds. It’s a slow and enjoyable sound trip that takes its time to gain its full effect.

Spicki> eep eep eep

Oh yes, ‘aestus unda’ is the name of that track by Elektrojudas.. Thanks for reminding me, Spicki! Oh and here is my drawing of it:

The next one is done by M. Nomized and it’s pretty intensive. It’s like listening to a classical piece of music made by aliens. I think of space ships passing through hallways and a few members of an orchestra playing the cello. What was your impression Spicki?

Spicki> ep eep eep eep eep eep

Oh, really? yes, that was Stanley Kubrick… but..

Spicki> eep eep eep eep eep eep

agreed, Spicki.. Here is a little drawing of it. It wasn’t a 30 seconds one, a little bit more like 10 seconds, but it was alright, right?

Spicki> eep eep eep

Oh, yes! Fastlanded! Delivers a great track that keeps us yet again suspended in space. It’s like a deep drone made out of far rocket engines. It’s really deep and low.

Spicki> eep eep

oh you want to do a drawing Spicki? Sure, why the hell not?

Spicki> eep

Spicki>eep eep eep

yes, thank you Spicki. Pretty nice!

Spicki> eep

Let’s listen to this really great artist named Bookwar! I heard this artist before on another compilation and that was totally the shit! And I don’t mean in the ‘shit’ way, but in the cool kind of way! And here Spicki, can you hear what I hear? This rocks, right?

Spicki> eep eep eep eep

Yes, I cant understand the language either, but who gives a f*ck, Spicki?
This is the bomb, fat synthesizer works, cool, aggressive and yet nice.

Spicki> eep eep eep eep

Okay, I’ll do an artist impression of this song:

Did you like it, Spicki?

Spicki> eep eep

Ah, yes! Agreed. And what about that Tamayurakurage vs Emerge track?

Spicki> eep eep eep eep eep

So true, Spicki! Very spacious and so deep! It’s like a deep depth kind of dark cold storm that is yet muffled enough to not be that cold. It’s also something that fits the outer space theme. It’s very intense but also nice how it moves.

Spicki> eep eep

Yes, it’s a difficult one to draw.. I don’t know where to start. A galaxy or a storm. or just black space? I’ll go for a cloud that blows, okay? It isn’t what we are hearing, but at least its doable. Here it is:

Spicki> EEP EEP EEP EEP EEP EEP EEP EEP

Don’t be alarmed Spicki, it’s just the last track!

Spicki> EEP EEP EEP

What you cant hear me?

Spicki> EEP EEP

ah, yes the volume is quite loud.. it’s pretty heavy this last track by Humanhate666. It’s like the artist hates you, Spicki.. The artist hates you and wants you to die and burn haha

Spicki> EEP

But to be fair, it’s next to heavy on the ears, its also pretty hot. I mean it’s harsh as if we are burning inside the flames of a rocket, but it’s also very nice when it changes into a loud but pretty opening. It turns into loud ambient, right?

Spicki> EEP

Yes, it’s a bit like the artist did a soundscape of us all dying in the flames and then going to hamster heaven..

Spicki> eep eep eep eep eep

ah, thanks Spicki! the end of this compilation was done.. and here is a drawing to illustrate it:

Spicki> eep eep

Yes, i’m also sad that it’s all over now.. but maybe we can do it more often Spicki. It was really nice to work with you and review this compilation together. It was really joyfull.. It made it even more special, don’t you think?
