Recorded live in concert at the attenuation circuit festival in Augsburg 2011, Swedish sound artist Diskrepant aka Per Åhlund makes us hear the dark side of everyday electronics. Through the use of induction coils and effects, the hum of the electric grid turns into the threatening drone of war planes overhead.

It’s threatening, but at the same time the sound envelops the listener in an insisting way that also fascinates and won’t let us go. This is possibly what industrial music was intended to be about: making audible the addictive character of our technological cilivilisation, its dependence on its machines and gadgets. The great artistic feat is that Diskrepant drives this point home without any of the stale visual clichés of violence and death, but purely through sound.
