Spectroscope is Peter M from Ontario, Canada, who also masterminds the project Unquiet Grave. Spectroscope takes us back to the lo-fi bliss of the 90s when psychedelic guitars and hardware drum computers were still recorded with 4-track cassette recorders. This little dose of nostalgia sure befits the great sense of yearning in this music.

The bedroom recording style of the four songs on this EP certainly is a statement. This is music that does not want to sound earthy and acoustic, it’s all about synths, drum machines, and electric guitars. But the very fact that you can hear it being made not in a professional, neutral-sounding studio but inside the belly of the beast we call everyday life gives the melancholy of the songs an edge that cuts straight to the heart.
