With this album, the labels attenuation circuit, run by EMERGE, and Grubenwehr Freiburg, run by Grodock, continue their GFAC series of split tapes, all using recycled tapes. They are aimed at pairing new or lesser known artists with already more widely connected practitioners in the experimental underground scene.
In this case, Modelbau aka Frans de Waard is certainly a major figure in the global experimental music underground network, due both to his versatile musical activities and his publication Vital Weekly, one of THE resources on experimental music worldwide. Here, Frans presents a five-part piece by his Modelbau solo project. The Morse code in the title sort of symbolises the sound of the music, which creates an astonishingly varied and nuanced palette of atmospheric sounds from lo-fi sources.
On the other side of the tape, the German-Italian duo of Gerald Fiebig & William Rossi present two pieces oscillating between drone, ambient, and noise which William Rossi describes as follows: “Born at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic as a means to express and exorcise the loneliness and uncertainty it brought and the yearning to communicate we responded with, this collaboration quickly started to focus on the concepts of language and communication themselves. A universal constant for humans and the rest of the animal kingdom alike, communication is the door into getting to know the world that surrounds us; physical touch is communication, glances are communication, art is communication, language is communication. A testament to humans' determination in connecting with each other, even in places where different cultures and tongues meet, both Sabir and Pidgin are languages that developed organically in order to bridge the gaps and understand one another. Languages express the deepest affection, the harshest of condemnations, seething hatred and utmost fragility; an endless kaleidoscope of emotion the music on this record has tried to capture, mimic and convey-”

Den dritten Split (GFAC 1003, C-90) in der von AC-Grubenwehr-Reihe wiederverwendeter Kassetten hat A-seits MODELBAU (eine der vielen Masken von Frans de Waard) mit 'New Page Signal (.-.-.)' bespielt. Was nicht heißt, dass er neue Seiten aufschlägt, das + in der Klammer verrät ja schon ein additives Usw. am dröhnambienten Plus-Pol. Als stehende Welle mit der Anmutung eines Murmelns wie von einem Radio durch zwei Wände, eines motorischen Dröhnens, einer rauschenden Wasserleitung. Das nach 19 Min. irritierend leiser wird. Dazu hat das Loch, das man in die Decke geguckt hat, den Himmel freigelegt, an dem ein Motorflugzeug brummt. Jedenfalls mischt sich nun eine brummige Welle ganz leise zu Stille, in der das Laufgeräusch des Mediums hörbar ist. Bis das vorausgegangene Dröhnen gedämpft wiederkehrt und den Röntgenblick auf die nächstbeste Wand und weit entfernte Detonationen richtet. Was GERALD FIEBIG & WILLIAM ROSSI danach bei 'Sabir' und 'Pidgin' mit Electronics, Drones, Manipulations, Ocarina, Cigarbox, Synthesizers, Shakuhachi & Orchestra inszenieren, mutet pfeifend, flötend und in molligen Wellen elegisch an. Um gegen jede Erwartung kakophonst zu eskalieren, aber dann mit melancholischem Piano so zu tun, als wär, trotz lang noch pfeifendem Daueralarm, nichts gewesen. 'Pidgin' bringt ein metalloides, nicht allzu bestimmtes Pulsen ins leise 'atmende' Spiel, in dem sich Uhrzeit und Traumzeit die Waage halten. Bis plötzlich Orchesterklang einschreitet und dieses lausigen Zeiten etwas rosiger und fülliger erscheinen lässt.
