H.P. Lovecraft’s psychedelic horror tale “The Mountains of Madness” has inspired musicians before, but these three very long tracks perhaps best fit the gloomy, hysteric atmosphere of their literary source. Screeching monotron mini-synthesizers, eerie flutes and endless sheets of unholy guitar distortion create vast landscapes that exhale a monotony which is never calm, but always edgy.

In addition to the title track, there are two more compositions called “Hole of Control” and “Beautiful Like Cherry Blooming.” The latter title is rather deceptive or, perhaps, sarcastic, because no obvious attempts are made here at conventional beauty. Interestingly, the very slowness with which things progress here makes this a testing listening experience, but one which certainly renders a sense of fear and oppressivness better than the majority of conventional noise and industrial music with its in-your-face aggressiveness.
