This lush hour of drony bliss is the final part of a seven-part series, the first six of which can be heard on Dutch sound artist Peer Saer’s Soundcloud page (soundcloud.com/p-saer). He crafts his drones from a wide range of sources both acoustic and digital. The music at times evokes a certain mysticism, only to deconstruct it a few minutes later with disturbing frequency shifts.

Peer Saer makes full use of the repertoire of drone music with irreverential eclecticism, combining sampled chants and flutes which typically characterise the more “ethnic” side of the drone spectrum with the audible beating of layered sound masses that is more reminiscent of the “experimental” approaches of Niblock, If, Bwana et al. The result is a nice piece of hypnotic dronescapes, with just the right balance of repetition and variation, that defies ideological pigeonholes.
