If they’d hired Pierre Henry to do the soundtrack to “2001 – A Space Odyssey”, it may have sounded quite like what EMERGE does here to synth and violin samples by elektrojudas and Don Vomp, respectively. Massive amounts of time-stretching and reverb create quirky little “alien” melodies that would have been the perfect soundtrack to HAL’s decomposure.

Contrary to what the title suggests, this release is not “stale” at all, nor is it as static and brooding as some of EMERGE’s more drone-oriented work. There is actually quite a lot happening on this album, it has the feel of collages of various melodic fragments, but still it is not exactly melodic music. An ever-present hissing drone holds all these sounds together, like the background noise of the cosmos that never stops.
