Hikaru Tsunematsu aka Zr3a delivers what one would expect from a Japanese noise artist: a wall of harsh, unredeemed electronic sounds in overdrive. But … what’s this? Every now and then, the noise drops to the sound level of everyday street sounds as field recordings sneak in, making little windows in the prison-walls of noise. A minimalistic, yet very effective departure from established genre rules, thought-provoking in that it highlights the difference between “noise” (as in harsh noise) and “noises” (as in extramusical noises).

Like all releases in the Rollator series, curated by ORiFiCE, this album has a cover painting by the artist (or some close collaborator). The improvised cover drawing by Hikaru Tsunematsu seems like a graphical representation of the dense noise block that makes up most of the album, with the thick angular shapes at the top, while the quiet sounds of the field recordings are shown at the bottom, represented by thinner, oscilloscope-type shapes.
